Subaru makes some great cars no matter what you’re looking for. From the WRX STi to the Forester, Subaru knows how to engineer long-lasting and capable vehicles for reasonable prices.
One of the most capable vehicles that Subaru makes is the Forester. The small SUV is a bit dated now, along with its brother the Crosstrek.
So in that case, Subaru are looking to really revamp their lineup. This is much needed, because an outdated line up is one thing that will drive customers away.
The new Forester does have some big shoes to fill. It needs to be capable, stylish, reliable and stay relatively low priced. This is one of the hardest things to do for a company, but Subaru is one manufacture that knows how to do this very well.
Another interesting factor to keep in mind is that the Forester and Corsstrek serve similar purposes. When redesigning both of them (as Subaru are), the designers need to be careful not to step on their own toes.
The current Forester is one of Subaru’s staples as a brand. It is capable off-road, pretty sharp looking and obtainable. I said this before for the Crosstrek, Subaru does have a tall order for the new car to replace the old one, but Subaru has proved themselves plenty of times.
The Exterior-2018 Subaru Forester:
There are some elements from the previous generation that look like they will live on in 2018.
The fog light assembly is a big shape that mirrors the secondary intakes on the previous generation. Plus, the head light shape is identical. The assembly for the 2018 Subaru Forester is a much more modern take on the shape though.
Other than that, the body retains a more up-right posture. The lower portion of the body is a big widened out, which helps the SUV look a big more dynamic.
The hood is long and the roof line is sleek. This is clearly a concept vehicle, but we’ll definitely see some elements transfer over to a production version.
Toward the back of the 2018 Subaru Forester, the SUV really shines with some great artwork.
Subaru’s new tail light design is sharp and not too complex. You can also see that cue from the fog lights is alive toward the bottom of the rear bumper. Overall, the new 2018 Subaru Forester is a very sharp little SUV that does very capable. The black trim around the wheel wells helps the attitude of the SUV as well.
Subaru Forester Interior:
Subaru is pretty conservative when it comes to interior design. They are very straight forward, and stick to classic formulas. Essentially, you get a steering wheel, infotainment system, air conditioning and gauges. I’m clearly over-simplifying things, but you get the point.
That trend of minimalism will most likely continue for the foreseeable future in Subaru’s lineup.
The 2018 Subaru Forester’s interior will most likely also feature the dual-screen layout we see in the 2017 model year. Other than that, it is a very basic interior.
The navigation is right in the middle and air conditioning is right below it. Subaru is much like Volkswagen with their interiors; Function over Form.
Subaru may redesign the interior for the 2018 Subaru Forester, but they will most likely stick with the formula that works. I can also imagine this would keep the cost down as well. While I do love flashy interiors with all sorts of lighting and exotic woods, you do have to have an appreciation for minimal interiors.
You can fit 5 adults comfortably in the 2018 Subaru Forester, as you could in the previous years. The Subaru Forester has always been the epitome of family fun, and that trend will continue.
The Performance-2018 Subaru Forester:
Like I said in the last segment, the 2018 Subaru Forester will be the epitome of family fun. That is true across all avenues, including performance. “Family Fun” in no way means fast.
With that said, the standard engine in the 2018 Subaru Forester is not completely known yet. But, we can get an idea if we look to the previous years.
Base Forester’s get a 2.5 L flat-four cylinder engine that produce 170 horsepower. You can also opt for a 2.0 L turbocharged flat four with a capable 250 horsepower. These engines can be paired to a six-speed manual transmission or a six-speed automatic.
The Forester can also be equipped with some clever technology. Subaru’s EyeSight system (clever name) brings you automated emergency braking, adaptive cruise control and lane departure warning. Very impressive from a relatively inexpensive brand.
On top of that, you can get up to 30 MPG on the highway and 23 MPG in the city. These figures are pretty impressive in this segment, which is again something Subaru is very good at.
While you won’t win races in your 2018 Subaru Forester, the SUV is great at being…The epitome of family fun. It has plenty enough power and capability to go adventuring, and will do it more efficiently than anyone. Subaru’s cars are also incredibly safe and reliable. Excellent, excellent cars.
