2017 Honda S2000 Review

Honda has given the green light for bringing back the 2017 Honda S2000 next year. This is a recently discontinued model which is going to make a comeback as the Japanese car maker has decided to revamp their sports car lineup and with the announcement of the NSX and the S660 releases the S2000 is another car that is going to appear alongside those vehicles.

The good old Honda S2000 was produced for the 2000 model year and lasted till 2009, when it was finally discontinued. It was a front-mounted-engine vehicle that enjoyed a very long and successful run as a sports vehicle in its segment. The model also made a large fan base which is now really looking forward for the comeback to finally happen.

The new 2017 model is actually not going to be a direct successor the vehicle we once knew and loved but as there are plans to make it available with a  mid-mounted engine setup.  The NSX and the S660 are already coming out with the same kind of setup, so it is pretty obvious that the this model gets to adopt the same one and use the same type of an engine design.

The initial reports also say that the design of all the newly announced Honda sport car is going to also adopt a similar kind of design. This means that you will be seeing some wraparound headlights,  flared wheel arches and  large side air intakes that are going to help the car be more fashionable and contemporary. Actually all the new sports cars have already incorporated this kind of a design language so it makes sense that Honda is adding their own take to their new batch of sports cars. Thus some of the fans may get to be a bit disappointed as the new model is going to have a more robust type of a look to it compared to the bullet like design that was a trademark for the original version.

Additionally, reports say that the newest Honda Civic Type-R model is going to loan its powertrain to the new S2000 model. This is actually some great news when it comes to the sports car. The model will thus utilize the full potential of a modified  2.0-liter, turbocharged, four-cylinder engine which is going to be boosted by an electronic engine as well which is going to be combined with the initial gasoline one.

The 2017 Honda S2000 is currently being produced at the Performance Manufacturing Center in the U.S where the NXS is also being made. The two models are going to adopt the same type of materials for their build but there is no indications on whether the cars are going to come out at the same time. We are sure that the NSX comes this year but the S2000 model is going to be available next year and the release date is not expected sooner than that.

2017 Honda S2000 redesign

There are a lot of changes that are going to be made to the exterior of the 2017 S2000 car. Most of them will concern the new design language that Honda adopts for its vehicles. As the new NSX and the S660 are nearing its finalization, look for the features of those cars to be transferred to the new one. There are going to be a lot of technical improvements that are going to be made and the car is going to slim down a bit compared to its original design. The slim bullet-like design is going to be dropped for a more raked one which is the same type used for the recent Honda sports cars.

The main selling point of the car may also prove to be its looks. The model is going to have a unique stall design on the outside which many fans may have only dreamed of when it came to this car. Merely based on the front view and how the headlamps have been changed you can determine that this new car promise to be a spectacular one.

Beside a more modern look we are expecting to get a lighter version of the car which is going to affect the fuel economy and the specs of the car. A lot of parts are made to be lighter and certain changes are particularly aimed to reduce weight. Fuel economy is going to be a big part of this model as well as the performance.

A lot of details about the redesign are still missing and are expected to come out soon and this is especially concerned about the interior of the car. The inside of the 2017 S2000 is still not known and we certainly assume that the one which we have seen when the car was discontinued is not going to make a comeback. Instead we deem it much more obvious that the model gets the same kind of attention as the latest models of Honda did. Also the newest NSX is going to borrow some details to the inside as the cars are being built at the same compound, so it also makes it easier production wise.

Under the hood of the 2017 Honda S2000 we can expect to get a 2.0-liter turbocharged  which is going to produce around  250 horsepower. The powertrain is going to be combined with a six-speed manual gearbox, or a six-speed automatic, which sends the power to the rear-wheel drive. This is going to be a perfect sports car and as the performance has been upgraded to the level to be competitive with the contemporary models of now. We also assume that they are combining it with an added electric engine which is going to upgrade the power  as well.
