2017 Ford Super Duty Redesign Review

The newest 2017 Ford Super Duty redesign is bringing something new to its concept which is going to completely change things for the better. They are actually thanking the page out of the F-150 model book and are basing the Super Duty model in its little brother now but with different sheetmetal. But the big news that the aluminum body that the F-150 has so proudly introduced is going to be added here and the Ford Super Duty model is preparing to shed some weight and become a more productive vehicle.

When the Ford Super Duty truck was introduced to the lineup in 1998, it was Ford’s leading car in towing, payload capacity and power. Since then the car has gone almost unchanged and it retained some of its legendary design cues like the sloping window slots, vertical door handles and the rectangular grille. But the body work as well as the interior of the model are going to take a dramatic turn now as the emphasis has been put on shedding some weight for the car.

Exterior

Finally, the 2017 Ford Super Duty model is going to bring us a completely new look and design for its newest incarnation. They are taking a step away from their standard look and are bringing something completely new and interesting with this latest one. There are some bits and pieces that are carried over form that 1998 model but they are not so numerous as the car still has more new parts to offer us. The  large, twin-bar grille comes with vertical side vents placed inside the headlights. The closed-loop tow hooks are still in the same place positioned on the front bumper and the  downward slope of the windows is still there.

The cabin has changed significantly as it uses many parts seen in the F-150 model. The side “vents” help determine the trim level and chassis rating and the front doors are now positioned vertically. There is a completely new lighting package given here with Quad-beam LED headlights, LED side spotlights placed in the side mirrors and LED lights placed on the cargo box part as well.

The rear end is also a big departure from the previous model with the newly designed taillights which follow the accent lines of the model. The bumper adds the integrated trailer wiring harness and there is a heavily reinforced, frame mounted receiver hitch. The F-350 and F-450 models exclusively come with a redesigned dually fender.

Interior

The interior of the 2017 Ford Super Duty is a very familiar setting, but it is actually not as you would assume a copy of the old design, it is actually a carbon copy of the F-150 interior. Actually, by utilizing this kind of a move, Ford saved a lot of time and money that they would if they developed a whole new inside for this separate model.

But there are a few differences between these two models. This one has a second glove box which is finished with aluminum and places a Super Duty logo on it. There are several auxiliary switches placed all over the control panel and the trailer brake controller is moved up in a few inches which actually makes it far easier to use.

Besides this, there are several safety controls placed here with the Adaptive Cruise Control systems and Lane Departure Warning being one of them. Finally, the truck also comes with a SYNC 3 which is a standard operating system for the infotainment system.

Engine specs

Interestingly, with all of the cages brought to the 2017 Ford Super Duty truck, the drivetrain is not going to be one of them. In fact they plan to keep the old 6.2-liter gasoline V-8 engine as the base one while the 6.7-liter Power Stroke V-8 is the optional offer. People who are interested in the chassis cab offer can opt for the 6.8-liter gasoline V-10 version. The only innovation concerning the powertrain this time is the addition of the TorqueShift-G transmission system offer which is given even for the base version. The  6.7-liter Power Stroke is one of the most powerful engines given here as it manages to surpass even the power of the Ram 3500 model and gives us an astounding 1,000 pound-feet of torque.
