There aren’t many other cars with a more luscious, Italian name than the 2017 Alfa Romeo Giulia.
Alfa Romeo as a brand is on a big come back, especially in the United States. Between the 4C, 4C Spyder and Giulia, Alfa is making some great examples of themselves. The 4C is one of the first cars of its kind, and it is absolutely gorgeous. I’d like to think I’m not completely biased here, even though I am Italian (my name is Gino).
While the 4C is one of my favorite cars out there, it does have its flaws. The 4C isn’t practical at all and has quite a harsh ride. But to love a car like that, you need to see past its small flaws. It’s a bit like your two year old child or sibling. You know it pees the bed sometimes and doesn’t do what you want it to do, but you love it.
Any way, Alfa Romeo has concocted an entry into a very competitive market. And that comes in the form of the 2017 Alfa Romeo Giulia.
The new 2017 Alfa Romeo Giulia is as beautiful as the name is. The midsize sedan comes in a couple standard trims which include the base Giulia and Giulia Ti. The Guilia has a base price of $37,000 and the Giulia Ti MSRP is right around $40,000.
As for the base two trims, the styling is very similar. There is no denying this new sedan from Alfa Romeo is absolutely beautiful and has all the check boxes filled. Giulia has Alfa’s trademark triangular grille that stands big and tall up front, flowing lines and determined eyes. The front end is long, and demands quite a presence.
The back of the 2017 Alfa Romeo Giulia is fantastic. The dual exhaust tips, the shape of the tail lights, the diffusor; It’s all athletic. It’s got teeth and is shaped very toned and ready. There is also an executive appeal throughout the car that I just adore.
I’m trying hard not to be biased here, but you have to admit the 2017 Alfa Romeo Giulia looks amazing.
The Exterior-2017 Alfa Romeo Quadrifoglio
Now the car that has been truly capturing headlines is the Quadrifoglio trim. It doesn’t really matter if you can’t pronounce the name, because this thing is drop-dead gorgeous.
The Quadrifoglio (I’m going to call it the QV from now on, since that name is just cumbersome to keep typing.) is the top level Giulia on the market.
The car starts at $72,000 and is worth every bit of it. It is lower, stronger and more aggressive than the standard car, with styling to match.
The trim level adds slashes in the front bumper, an active front spoiler, air vents in the hood, larger intakes, a lower stance, the famous clover leaf badge, and a crazy rear end. Strictly from styling, this thing is fabulous. I’m honestly running out of words here…
If the front wasn’t enough to stop your heart, here is the back. A new carbon fiber spoiler is added to the deck that just looks like little bat wings (love it). Below that, the bumper has quad exhaust tips combined into the big scary diffusor making Giulia look absolutely beastly. I am in love.
The Interior of the 2017 Alfa Romeo Giulia:
The design excellence is continued inside the Giulia. The interior features a curved infotainment screen that is operated by the ever-popular control mechanism on the center tunnel.
The air conditioning controls are easy to use and understand in a simple layout, as well as the entertainment controls. The steering wheel is totally trimmed down and sporty, and the paddle shifters are massive. As they should be.
From the center, you can control what mode the car drives in (natural, dynamic, and “Advanced Efficiency”). The drive modes dictate if cylinders should be shut off for efficiency, if the suspension should be tightened and if the engine should kick you in the neck.
The overall style of the interior of the 2017 Alfa Romeo Giulia is fantastic. No matter what color you happen to get your Giulia’s leather in, the layout pulls it off with ease. The whole thing flows very nicely and the splashes of wood are very modern looking.
The interior of the QV is turned up to 11. While hidden in this picture, there are massive paddles behind the wheel for shifting. Carbon and alcantara is littered everywhere on the inside of the QV and it looks stunning. It is a driver-focused, red-stitched haven of speed.
The 2017 Alfa Romeo Giulia will come standard with a 2.0 L four cylinder engine that produces a very impressive 280 horsepower and 306 pound-feet of torque. This pushes the Giulia to a top speed of 149 MPH that is electronically restricted. Zero to sixty is done in an again very impressive 5.1 seconds. Performance figures are identical with the Giulia Ti.
As for the Giulia QV, it is a different story. Out of the twin-turbocharged 2.9 L V6 engine, you get a class-leading 505 horsepower and 443 lb-ft. of torque. This massive power motivates the Giulia QV from zero to sixty in 3.8 seconds. This thing is mental, and can reach a top speed of 191 miles per hour.
All variants of the Giulia have a standard 6-speed manual transmission and an optional 8-speed automatic transmission.
