2016 Opel Astra OPC Release Date, Review, Specs, Price – An understatement would be to say that the all-new Opel Astra was met with mixed reactions. The new vehicle will definitely come with a pretty design as well as boring specs that will attract both fans and critics alike.
Sure, we can praise the new vehicle for its roomier interior, weight loss, fancy intelliLux LED matrix headlights, etc., but we can’t forget to say that the vehicle lacks the ‘wow factor’ when it comes to its looks.
We can all reminisce the last time the OPC came with a wow factor was back in 2004 when it came out with sharper lines unlike anything seen within its segment. I tend to think that Opel is headed in another direction with the OPC if I was pitting it against the Corsa OPC.
I must admit that if the automobile company went ahead and built the production model as similar as the concept, then the current model will assuredly have a more aggressive stance than the upcoming new model.
Despite the drawbacks, the new vehicle’s details are pretty nice especially the 20” wheels which have made the vehicle’s exterior something to boast about. The most probable question lingering in most people’s minds is perhaps whether the new 2016 Opel Astra OPC will outshine its traditional Volkswagen Golf.
Exterior Design – Opel Astra OPC 2016
Exterior wise, the new vehicle looks sharper and sleeker than its precursor. Most visually notable exterior feature is the prominent character line that makes its way through the door handles from the rear towards the front wheel arches.
Judging from the prototype, the vehicle seems to seating on new sets of alloy wheels. At the back, will be a roof mounted spoiler. The 5-door hatchback will be perhaps longer in comparison to the current model.
To sum it up, the front fascia looks similar to the 2015 Buick Excelle, which is the edition model made for the Chinese market and is a sibling to the next Buick Verano. As already mentioned in the review, the vehicle will also come with latest LED technology code-named InteilliLux LED lights.
These matrix LED technology lights do not blind the on-coming driver, and consists of 8-segements that analyse the traffic ahead through camera assisted technology. Just like the previous Astra, the forthcoming one will spawn newer ones that include; the Sports Tourer wagon, Astra Sedan, and GTC coupe.
Engine Specs of the New 2016 Opel Astra OPC
Under the hood of the new vehicle will be several engines which will be made available for the new Astra OPC. Additionally, the vehicle will also borrow a D2XX platform from the Chinese produced Chevy Cruze.
With the platform, the weight of the OPC is expected to be reduced drastically by almost 220 lbs. which is just as much as was recommended before the previous model was unleashed to the public.
Moving on, the new Astra will now make use of a 1L 3-cylinder engine that will be in two forms. The first form will yield 66 kW while the second one will produce 85kW while both of them will generate 166 pounds of torque.
There are plans underway to provide a 1.2L, 1.4L and 1.6L turbocharged engines. With the 1L engine, the vehicle will be able to accelerate from 0-60 mph in less than 6 seconds while its fuel consumption is capped at around 4L for every 100 km travelled.
Price & Release Date of the Opel Astra OPC 2016
According to the automobile’s announcements, the new vehicle will most likely be released towards September this year during the Frankfurt Motor Show. The price of the hatchback will likely cost you around 16,000 Euros.
2016 Opel Astra OPC Interior Photos
The interior of the new Opel Astra OPC 2016 will be roomier than its predecessor and is set anticipated to set new standards in the compact class. The vehicle will be the first ever Astra to be connected with an Opel’s OnStar’s service, that will be there to offer rescue services.
One thing that immediately strikes a seasoned Astra driver is the reduced number of controls for the air conditioning systems and infotainment systems. The unmasked prototype also featured a sleeker steering wheel and a painted lower console, which we hope to be included in the production model.
