2016 Jaguar XE Review

The day has finally arrived and the confirmation has arrived about the release of the 2016 Jaguar XE car. The confirmation was made with the news being made in September and it is now official that we are going to see the new vehicle perform and showcase for the upcoming season. Months and months of teasing are finally over as now we look forward to review and debate what actually the car has to offer us.

They are calling the XE label as the British answer to the BMW 3 Series. Jaguar has actually announced its lineup which will rival the 3 Series from top to bottom, with the XE S being its top contender and perhaps flagship trim. The lower level trims will come sporting different versions of gasoline powered and diesel powered engines that are going to make an impact for the brand as well and are supposed to come out with either an “R” or an “R-S” badge or even an “SVR” one.

The way this vehicle is going to be different from the other release coming out of Jaguar this year is that this one will be fitted with Jaguar’s all-new aluminum architecture that was premierly used on the C-X17 concept car. This usage drastically reduces the weight of the vehicle and exponentially upgrades its performance and specs. This is an attempt of Jaguar to provide powerful and sporty vehicles are lighter and have better fuel-economy. The car has been showcased this year already and we expect the release date to arrive come 2016.

2016 Jaguar XE exterior

Speaking about the exterior design of the 2016 Jaguar XE it is a very sport sedan like car. Actually, this is something to be expected as the vehicle is made to rival the BMW 3 Series cars. With a long hood, short rear and a coupe-like roofline, inspired by the XF car, the car offers some very appropriate looking design specs which will be very much appreciated. The profile lines are somewhat soft, but the overall look of the sedan has some deeply sculptured lines. The front part of the car has a large grille with some narrow headlamps and it also adds some prominent air dams, which is perhaps only going to be feature on the XE S trim.

The back part also noticeably borrows from the XF version as the taillights and the bumper are distinguishable as being a part of that vehicle’s design. The back also has some more elegant lines than the sporty ones and the entire vehicle receives a better drag coefficient, set at 0.26, which is entirely owed to this brand new design. You can get the car with the standard 17-inch wheels, but can also use the 18-inch or the 20-inch ones optionally. The best thing about the XE is its aluminum structure which is inspired by an aerospace-inspired technology. The lightweight 6000-series aluminum, which makes about 75 percent of the unibody, accounts for a significant weight loss to the 2016 Jaguar XE car.

The interior of the 2016 Jaguar XE is pretty clean and does not lack the luxury when rivaling against the top vehicles in the segment. The inside is mostly driver-orientated and is more than obvious when looking at the center console of the car. The car is very much sporty looking but makes for an elegant inside with its wood veneers, aluminum and piano-black inserts and finishes. You can get the XE with a choice of two brand new entertainment systems, the InControl Touch and InControl Touch Pro. The former one includes the  an eight-inch touchscreen and supports Bluetooth, audio streaming and Bluetooth connectivity, while the later comes with a more advanced setup that adds quad-core processor and high-speed solid state drive. You control this system using a 10.2-inch touchscreen that has different and customizable widgets that are used to control everything.

There is going to be a large choice of engines that will be used inside the 2016 Jaguar XE lineup. The US announced choices have been released recently and include some very interesting additions that can be quote useful for various different feats. The XE 25t is going to use the  2.0-liter, four-cylinder  that makes 240 horsepower 251 pound-feet of torque. The XE 20d uses a 2.0-liter diesel engine that delivers 180 horsepower and 318 pound-feet of torque. The top of the range model is the XE 35t which uses the 3.0-liter, supercharged, V-6  and outputs a respective 340 horsepower and 332 pound-feet of torque. This actually enables this engine to reach the 0-60 mph mark in 5.1 seconds and a top speed of 120 mph.

All three engine types use a ZF eight-speed automatic transmission system, but the XE35t AWD adds a 8HP70 transmission while the RWD versions of the XE 35t, the XE20d and the XE 25t  use a 8HP45 transmission. This year the XE 25t will not come with an AWD but it will be included on the XE 20d variant.
