2016 Chevrolet Spark Release Date, Review, Engine, Specs, Price – With the announcement and the initial introduction at the New York Auto Show, Chevrolet has marked the release of the new Spark vehicle. A model that is dubbed the 2016 update is currently being developed and assembled in South Korea, with the release date for the car being somewhere at the end of the year. The new Spark comes with some inside and outside updates with a more aerodynamic look, better performance and more power than before.

The Spark was first produced in 1998 and was released in Korea, but under a different name as it was originally called the Daewoo Matiz. Later on it has been released in a number of different countries worldwide and has been given different names depending on the country it has been released for. The car received a first major overhaul in 2003, but the best was yet to come for the 2007 model year when GM developed its Gamma platform and incorporated it within the design of the car. The car was perhaps most popular in the Philippines but has managed to receive its US debut in 2010.

The previous model was one of the most sold Spark cars till now so Chevrolet expects that the next model in line continues the Spark continue where its predecessor has stopped. What is to be expected from the newest car is that it will enhance the attention on the US market and popularize the brand here. It also is supposed to draw more attention from younger crowds and attain much more attention than before.

The look of the Spark car has been updated accordingly with the new idea and the new look that Chevrolet has going for the new model year. I order to freshen up the design of the car there needed to be many updates that will make the model appealing to the younger audiences. The most obvious change is the change within the front fascia. It has been remodel in order to fit more the current style language that Chevy has included for its recent vehicles. The massive headlights at the front have been removed and are now replaced with horizontal ones that are seen in the Impala and Malibu vehicles. The grille has been also changed and the trademark dual one has been exchanged with a sportier version. The lower piece stretches more into the apron where the air dams used to be, while the fog lamps are still there in the same position in the bumper as before but now have a new design as well.

The rear fascia has been redesigned accordingly and also has a lot of dramatic changes. There is a redesigned hatch at the back which also features a smaller glass area with angular taillights. The bumper has changed from a diffuser like shape to a trapezoidal one, which also uses a small splitter underneath. On the sides, the greatest difference is the addition of a character line that has been added across the door front and the handles as well. The rear door crease actually define the shoulders of the car more and provide it with a much sportier look like that. But the biggest news is actually the positioning of the car as it has been lowered by 1.6 inches.

Interior

The interior specs and photos about the new Chevrolet Spark are yet to be released. But Chevrolet has made some initial announcements that define the inside and how it will look like. First of all, the upgrade in the comfort levels is going to be huge. The car will have some upgraded materials that are going to be used inside and higher density fabrics that will also make sure that the support of your back during the ride is made better.

The center stack is going to be small as before and it will upgrade the gadgets and its usability. An advanced LCD display with the upgraded infotainment system is going to be key here. The climate control system with the MyLink radio are some innovations for this year. Also the look has been also redefined this time as round air outlets on the inside will become trapezoidal and will account for a more dynamic look of the inside.

Engine

Under the hood of the Chevrolet Spark there is a new base engine option. It will use the Ecotec, 1.4-liter, inline-four rated at 98 horsepower. The previous one was a 1.2 liter one that provided an output of 84 hp and 3 pound-feet of torque. The added power enables much better performance from the Spark vehicle. It even has a 0.5 second faster acceleration as it can reach 0-60 mph in 10 seconds flat this time.  There are two transmission options, a five-speed manual and a CVT. The CVT is estimated to produce an EPA rating of 40 mpg on the highway, which is better than the 39 mpg from last year.

Price and release date

The new Chevrolet Spark is going to be released soon and it will come out this year, or at least by the end of the year. The US release will perhaps be a little bit later as it may come out at the beginning of next year. The price has not been officially confirmed but it is assumed that it will be somewhere around the price of the current spark vehicle, or at base MSPR of $12,270.
