The new crossover has been spotted doing some test-drives in the wild, and despite being heavily veiled, we have some ideas about what we should expect from the new XT5. Cadillac has made its intentions known and no longer a secret.
The automobile giant plans to refurbish its entire line-up in the coming years through innovative ideas and blueprints. The tiny titbits of the details have not been announced, however, with the nameplate changes and designs of the upcoming models from GMC, we should expect even more surprises in the near future.
Specs – 2016 Cadillac XT5
The sharp eagle-eyed mole who caught the XT5 prototype in the wild has already uploaded the photos to All About Cars. By the looks of things, it seems as if the vehicle will retain the same essential footprint of current SRX. The unmasked XT5 now displays off all of its new exterior that is complete with the front fascia’s Cadillac new signature.
Around back, the vehicle now gets rid of the boxy look of the SRX in favour of the more tapered and contemporary hatch. The twin exhaust systems which were visible in the initial prototypes have been carried over to the production model as was expected.
The XT5 will come with a base four-cylinder turbocharged engine. There are news of the possibility of two optional V6 engines, but the juicy details have not been released as yet. Moreover, the new vehicle will also make use of Cadillac’s anticipated 9-speed auto transmission system.
A new platform is also going to be utilised, the new vehicle will come with the all-new platform code-named C1XX, which is a short wheelbase version of the Chi architecture. As for the long-wheelbase variants, only Chevy Transverse and Buick Enclave will make use of the Chi Platform.
GMC also confirmed plans to begin selling the Cadillac XT5 sometime next year. The company disclosed the info as part of the CarPlay announcement, clarifying that only the gorgeous and hot-selling SRX will be the only model in the entire line-up that won’t have a chance to boast of Apple’s smartphone integration system.
Exterior & Interior Pictures – Cadillac XT5 2016
The design of the new vehicle departs from the SRX design language in key ways, with the sole purpose of giving the new vehicle its unique identity. The XT5 will definitely move into the next-gen of Art and Science design platform.
Expect the vehicle to lose the angular styling that was more pronounced in the previous model. Also as already mentioned, the vehicle will come riding on a new platform known as the Chi Platform.
The exterior dimensions should not be expected to change significantly over the existing SRX model, however, the vehicle will now be stiffer and lighter in order to enhance its efficiency and handling.
The exterior cues that should be expected will most probably feature a chrome trim, large grille, coupe like crossover design and vertical LED lights.
We will have to perhaps wait longer for the production model to make its appearance and learn more about what we might expect from the interior design of the vehicle. But despite the setback, we tend to subscribe to the school of thought that the new XT5 will not come with any significant alterations in its cabin, thanks to the amazing sales that were recorded by its predecessor.
Engine Specs of the New 2016 Cadillac XT5
Under the hood of the new vehicle will be speculations about its engine displacement and power output. That said, we should expect the new XT5 to come with the current 3.6L engine, but will nevertheless, be tweaked in order to provide more power than its precursor.
It is reported that GM is already working on a 2.7L turbocharged V6 that will come handy in bridging the gap between the 2L turbocharged 4-cylinder and the 3.6L V6.
Also, rumours allege that the automaker might also make an XT5 hybrid model and a top of the range V-series model that will adorn the powerful supercharged V8. Other news you should look forward to is the turbo-diesel powertrain.
