Given the fact that Audi has steadily been updating its entire fleet it is finally time for the 2016 Audi A4 sedan to get a new look. Audi is mixing things up a bit with the entire fleet and is going to do the same with this one. Before this one there are a few models that also got a redesign which include the A4, Q7 and the R8 and it was showcased at the latest Frankfurt show that the S4 is the next one in line to receive its changes.
The plan was to unveil the S4 first and then showcase the S4 second. The later is made to be a beefed up version of the former and can be fitted right between the standard version of the S4 and the RS4 molds from Audi. What Audi is doing for the large part of its fleet when updating it is revamping the interior with a few new details and also adding some new advancements on the inside. These of course include the technology that is being upgraded and also the renovation of the materials and comfort systems. Finally we are also getting some changes with the powertrain as it adds more power.
The Audi S4 Sedan made its debut to the world at the 2015 Frankfurt Auto Show but will be released as a 2016 model. We are hoping for a late release as it places the model available till the end of the year. More about the price and the release date is available below in our analysis of the car and you will be able to find out all the latest specs and news about this vehicle in the review.
2016 Audi S4 sedan exterior
Given the fact that the new 2016 Audi S4 sedan is based on the recently released A4, it will inherit all of its design features. Thus the biggest news for the new sedan vehicle is that it is going to have some extended characteristics and is going to adopt some larger dimensions compared to the previous models. As the vehicle that it was based on has enhanced aerodynamics and some sharp features to it, the new S4 sedan is going to have the meanest look that it ever had. It will even have similar aerodynamic characteristics so the drag coefficient is going to transfer as well making the number at 0.23, which is enough to say that it is pretty impressive.
The front end of the car has been reshaped with some new angular headlights which have a new LED pattern. The grille is slightly reshaped and the hood is revised as well as it adopts some slight yet subtle creases. All of this is also present in the A4 sedan, but the one thing that makes a difference for the S4 is the bumper which is completely unique to this model. The bumper is not much bolder looking and has a bigger splitter and some revised air intakes added. The S4 has always been about the subtleness of design and this one is no exception as well as it brings us a very peculiar and likable look.
The side part has gone through the least amount of changes as they have only reshaped the side skirts of the car a bit. Other changes are the added black window trim, aluminum-look mirror caps, and the sporty looking 18-inch wheels which cover the new red-painted calipers. 19-inch ones are available optionally.
The inside of the 2016 Audi S4 sedan also adopts a lot of the elements from its A4 counterpart. The dash has been redesigned from the ground up and it adds some clean new elements. It has some continuous air-vent strips and has been also given a revised center stack, which also houses the new infotainment center which is closer to the central part of the dash now. The 8.3-inch color display controls everything and is very neatly positioned on the top of the dash. The steering wheel and the MMI controls are very visibly based on the Audi Prologue concept that was seen a few years ago.
With the longest interior and greatest shoulder width, the Audi S4 now has abundance of space on the inside. It is only complemented with the added technological parts which come as a standard setting for the model. The gadgets added on the inside include WiFi, LTE connectivity, navigation, free-text search function and touch capability. There is also a head-up display and a virtual cockpit that are offered as optional here.
2016 Audi S4 engine
There is not going to be an engine change for the 2016 Audi S4 that some have been expecting, but actually the bigger news is that the model is going to add turbo instead of being supercharged and will continue to use the 3.0-liter V-6 powerplant. This gives a 21-horsepower and 44-pound-feet improvement which will result in a total of 354 horsepower and 369 pound-feet of torque for the model now. The 0-60 mph ability is going to be enhanced to 4.7 seconds while the top speed is going to be about 155 mph.
Price and release date
The 2016 Audi S4 is going to be offered in two trims, the Premium Plus version and the Prestige. They both come with a different setup and a different array of optional equipment thus the prices are going to differ. The former is priced at $48,400 while the later has a base MSRP of $54,300. The release date is not certain but it is going to be this year. Expect it to come out in the market by the end of this year the least.
