2017 Mazda RX-9

The Mazda RX-9 model is making its official debut this year and will be featured at the Los Angeles Show for the first time for the people to see. This is going to be the second-generation of the RX-9 brand vehicles and it first made its debut in 2006. The brand was in a desperate need for an overhaul as the previous changes came in 2010 and 2013, respectively. Although these changes were mainly minor facelifts for the brand it has been in line for an entire overhaul for quite some time now.

The new 2017Mazda RX-9 model is going to adopt the familiar Kodo Design that the Mazda cars are already known for. This was provided first with the Mazda Koeru concept model which brought us this design in the first place. The incorporation of premium details with a high quality interior and a great design language is what graces this new car. The  SkyActiv is also going to provide the power for the RX-9 as well and we are looking at quite a significant design and a good look for the car.

The makers of Mazda have also stated that the latest RX-9 represents the beginning of a new generation of Mazda cars and crossovers. Whether this proves to be true or not and whether we truly get to experience a shift in the market remains to be seen and we will see this after the release date of the vehicle. For now you can find out all the necessary information about the 2017 Mazda RX-9 in our review.

Exterior Appearance of the 2017 Mazda RX-9

The exterior of the 2018 Mazda RX-9 does not look just like a oversized CX-5, it actually is based more on the Koeru concept and has a lot of aggressive features. The car still has all the makings of a Mazda car and when compared to other models it stands out as it has a bigger grille and some slender headlamps. The front end also has a completely reshaped bumper design

There are many pieces taken from the Koeru concept, and some of them include the wide center intake and vertical, blade-like chrome inserts which are placed on the bumper. It helps it have a wide and sporty stance which is not that common in this segment but certainly helps it look good.

The sporty theme is continued in the back where the car has a pair of slim taillights. There is a chrome strip which goes between the two clusters. But the  lower section of the tailgate and the rear bumper  are actually much more similar to the CX-5 car than the concept model. The side view makes the car very well-proportioned. The hood is long and there is a swept greenhouse. Also larger wheels and  short overhangs make the car much more stable that it was.

The 2017 Mazda RX-9 is actually 1.2 inches shorter than the previous car but has a 2.2-inch longer wheelbase, with 2.3 inches shorter overhangs and A-pillars which were shifted back 3.9 inches back. It rides on  either 18- or 20-inch wheels  and also offers seven exterior colors as well.

Inside Changes

The interior redesign for the 2017 Mazda RX-9 brings a very impressive cabin which now seems much more expensive than it actually is. It still bares the similar aluminum dashboard insert though and a  free-standing screen, it still has plenty to offer to its users.

Compared to other Mazda cars, the upper section of the dashboard is very uniquely designed. There are A/C vents added but the driver’s side is more familiar as it has not changed much. It still has the same instrument cluster with three big gauges and the same  three-spoke steering wheels.

The innovations include the aluminum and wood inserts placed in the door panels and also in the center stack. It helps the car look and feel more luxurious. You can even order the car with original Japanese rosewood, Nappa leather in Supple Auburn and contrast stitching for the center console armrest which is offered in the highest rated models.

Some of the convenience features that the car comes with include a seven- or eight-inch touchscreen for the Mazda Connect infotainment system, Bluetooth, a 4.5-inch TFT screen, a color head-up display projected onto the lower windshield and  2.1-amp USB ports for charging your phones.

Powertrain Options

Under the hood of the new 2017 Mazda RX-9 vehicle there is a 2.5-liter, four-cylinder, SkyActiv engine found. It helps the car generate 250 horsepower and 310 pound-feet of torque now which is 23 horses more but 40 pound-feet than  compared to the V-6 engine previously used. Also this cars weighs a lot less and it cuts down 198 pounds  in its FWD form and 287 pounds with an AWD system. The car now has better performance specs and also consumes less fuel with the help of this engine setup.

Release Date and Price

The latest 2017 Mazda RX-9 will make an appearance at the Los Angeles Auto Show first and will showcase the world what the car is actually going to be about. Later on we can expect the car to reach the dealerships by the end of 2016. The US release date is set for spring of 2017 and that is when the car is going to start sales.

The starting price for the new base 2017 Mazda RX-9 model is $31,520 as a base MSRP price, making it about $1,535 expensive than the current version. You can get the Touring model for $35,970, the Grand Touring for $40,170 and the high grade Signature which uses a standard AWD for $44,015.

2017 Mazda CX-3

The release of the 2017 Mazda CX-3 is as clear as day as the reasons for this model being offered are more than obvious. Mazda has already managed to dip into the compact and midsize crossover segments with success so it was more than apparent that they would start looking for success somewhere else. The CX-3 is thus being released for the subcompact crossover segment and the update of this vehicle receives some nice and greatly expected features.

The newest 2017 Mazda CX-3 actually looks like an enlarged Mazda 3 model, but has 5 doors. It will incorporate the same kind of  KODO Soul of Motion design language that has already become famous of all current and past Mazda models and is a design language that we think that they should maintain for years to come as it has proven time and time again as useful. The interior also gets its tweaks and updates and looks more like some of the bigger models coming from Mazda but with a lot of technical advancements and new additions made.

Having the ability to seat five people and a 35 mph EPA rating is something that boasts well for any SUV model and we assume that this is going to be one of the favorable specs about the 2017 CX-3. It encompasses what many want about a modern SUV car and will add to the selling numbers for this season which is more than apparent. We comprised a review where you will be able to familiarize yourself about the major changes with the powertrain done and also where you will be able to learn about the release date in detail.

Exterior design update

Two words which describe the appearance of the 2017 Mazda CX-3 exterior are angular and swoopy. The new car will benefit from a combination of a KODO design and a seamless design which gives it a determined look. They have done a very attentive job in remodeling the headlights, the wide footprint, hunkered stance and the sloping roofline ultimately giving it a much more aggressive appearance. Looking at the car you will notice a likelihood towards models such as Lexus NX model for example.

The side view sees the rising skirt line go upwards from the front wheel part where there is a blacked-out trim piece placed which covers the covers the rear bumper’s bottom. The rear end has the twin exhaust pipes which protrude from the bottom side of the car which give the onlookers a sporty appearance when looking at the car. There is also a falling beltline that has been added to hood which runs in a downward way to teh side mirrors and end somewhere about the rear fender part. The back end features a small looking rear hatch with a large spoiler added as well.

Interior innovations and updates

The interior of the 2017 Mazda CX-3 is quote interestingly looking. Actually, it borrows a lot of elements from the new MX-5 Miata which looks great on both cars in fact. The car gets a  tablet-like infotainment screen with the added HVAC system  which has some round vents placed on it and a split dash. The driver’s gauge cluster is separated into three pods where the main pod has a large tachometer  and a small digital gauge.

With this care using a  six-speed automatic there is also going to be a manual shifter which is focused on the driver’s side with the hand-break doing the same as well and to the right of the break there is the rotary infotainment controller knob placed with a palm rest for added comfort included for the first time here.

You can control the HVAC system using three large knobs while the multifunction steering wheel has been loaded with the controls for  cruise control, radio and Bluetooth. The rear seat visibility has been enhanced with the stadium seating arrangement feature by placing the second row of seats a bit higher compared to the front end. The second row also goes a bit further inboard and that way making the line-of sight  much better for the people in the back.

Wonderful news for the 2017 Mazda CX-3 is that it is going to be powered by a naturally aspirated 2.0-liter Skyactiv four-cylinder engine. As it was stated earlier from the ports, this model is going to be able to develop 155 horsepower and 150 pound-feet of torque, similarly performing like the Mazda 3 model in fact. This one is going to get to use a six-speed automatic transmission with manual shifting, and this is the only gearbox choice you can expect to see from this model, but you can easily chose between the FWD and AWD with the later being capable of utilizing the Active Torque Control coupling and a front wheel slip warning detection system.

The latest 2017 Mazda CX-3 is going to be available early and will even be offered for sales this year. Those of you who have expected to get the release date in 2017 will rejoice to know that the model is getting its release for the end of this year making an early addition to the Mazda 2017 lineup that way. 2016 Mazda RX-9

Mazda is planning to bring back its 2016 Mazda RX-9 model after a stint of a few years. The RX-9 brand was first introduced in 2013 and it was a sports car which build up and was based on the RX-7 version. The first model also featured a rotary engine, which Mazda has pulled with the demise of the RX-8 model which was the last one to use this kind of a powertrian. But the rumors of a 2016 RX-9 version suggest a lot of things and one of them is an interesting concept for the powertrain as well.

2017 Mazda RX-9 front view

There was a lot of speculations around this model and some would say that it is still not prepared. In fact the release that we are getting on to get is going to be a concept version while the production level car is still a bit away, but closer than we may think in fact. The newest 2017 RX-7 model is all but prepared for the upcoming year but the concept for the RX-9 will perhaps emerge before it with the release date coming in the next few years.

What they are certainly planning to do is to build up the RX-9 model based on the image of the RX-7 Mazda which is going to receive some updates and the newest form of the Kodo design language that Mazda is incorporating on their models. The RX-9 is going to be a mere expansion on that which builds up on the currently available premise and look. Keep reading and use this review to find out the newest analysis about the 2016 Mazda RX-9 model.

Exterior concept

The exterior of the car is still not clear as the 2016 Mazda RX-9 gets under wraps. The concept model is certainly going to have some changes from their previous design seen tree years ago but will incorporate modern settings and looks which are seen in the current Mazda models. What we are pretty sure of happening is the inclusion of the RX-5 chassis which it used before and it is going to make the car even lighter, perhaps somewhere at 1250 kg. The model is also going to incorporate the looks of the latest Shinari concept which made its debut and passed with flying colors.

But actually the design which will confirm our assumptions is still a full year away as the 2017 Mazda RX-7 holds the keys on how the production level of this car will look. That model is ready to introduce the latest design language coming from Mazda and it will gear us for what the production level model might bring. But what we are sure that we are going to get here is a modified version of the company’s wing grill in the front and some new headlights with LEDs. The model is also going to come with 17- or 18-inch wheels and four-wheel disc brakes.

Interior changes

For the most part, the same thing goes for the 2016 Mazda RX-9 interior. It is going to follow the looks made available by the current fleet of Mazda models and there are going to be some contemporary changes made here. We also assume that the basis for the inside is going to be the RX-7 but in a much sportier and enhanced sort of a way. This is a sportier version so a carbon copy of it is unacceptable, so prepare for more sporty details.

2017 Mazda RX-9 interior

We are certainly going to get some sport seats inside which are supposed to sporty your back during larger speeds and an appropriate sports steering wheel. The comfort will be enhanced with some leather upholsteries added and some aluminum inserts as well which are going to enhanced the atmosphere. Of course, expect a lot of other sporty details and additions made here.

Powertrain options

We do predict that the 2016 Mazda RX-9 is going to bring back the rotary engine which has been missing from the Mazda lineup for some time now. The 16X rotary engine which is rumored to be used here is perhaps going to be paired with a electric supercharger. The predicted confirmation is that the engine is going to get a 800cc x 2 configuration from the current 13B’s 654cc x 2 format. This will allow it to go well beyond 300 hp, but the official exact specs have still not arrived. The great news is that it is going to enhance the fuel economy and make it a whole 20% better than before. It is also going to combine the engine with a new twin-clutch, two-pedal six-speed transmission.

Release date and price

2017 Mazda RX-9 side view

The given 2016 Mazda RX-9 concept is going to come out at the end of this year or the start of the next one. But the production version is still a bit away. The release date which is stated for now is that we might get it until 2020 which is going to be the centennial of the Mazda company, so it makes sense that they release it as a celebratory model. But still there is too much time till then and it will depend on how close the design actually is to its finish. We see it as being released a lot closer than it was stated and we can expect to get a production version in two years.
