2017 Lexus LS 460 Redesign

The 2017 Lexus LS460 redesign is on its way. This is going to be the fourth generation model that Lexus is offering for its LS brand. All of the previous versions were set to be flagship vehicle for the company and they all changed in the way as they were built much better compared to the previous one and they managed to outweigh the needs of the previous one by filling in all the holes that the car before had. What the 2017 Lexus LS is planning to do is just that. The car is going to be fashionably redesigned and will hold another innovation for the car.

It was rumored for a long time that Lexus is preparing a hydrogen fuel cell for its cars. With the Mirai model debuting with this kind of a powertrain it is up to Lexus to make their move. As a refueling facility is needed to make this possible, Lexus has been pushing and funding the manufacture of these facilitates for quite some time now and it was only a matter of time for them to come up with the same kind of a powertrain which is going to rival that of the European versions.

Lexus is known for its green and environmentally friendly policy. Being that the parent company Toyota was the one who came with the famous Prius car, it has adapted its technology in the same way for its Lexus models. So the LS brand has evolved along the years offering innovative engine variants. First it came with a gasoline-electric hybrid engine for the XF40 platform. The next generation  LS 600h L featured a V-8-powered hybrid vehicle,  with a  5.0-liter V-8 that combined with an electric motor and CVT to create 439 horsepower. The last incarnation uses a first production eight-speed automatic transmission and also body temperature sensors for the climate control. It is innovative as it gets and brings forth a slew of safe options for the driver.

The newly released photos of the 2017 Lexus LS 460 model are an early indication on how the car looks like but we are able to present more with the offered review here.

Exterior Appearance and Redesign

The redesign of the exterior of the 2017 Lexus LS 460 is going to feature similar updates as other cars from the brand have received. You can mainly look for the updates in such models as the RC and NX models which the LS copies the front from. The car now has a restyled front end with with sharp and angular headlights which add LEDs. The front grille has an hourglass desing which is also a new part of the design across the Lexus lineup. This looks really accelerates the the way the design of the LS cars is going.

The front end does look a bit wild, but the rest of the car is pretty tamed. The car does have strong lines but not as busy as the front end of the car suggests. This kind of a style is actually an attribute to the hydrogen storage tanks which are necessary to power the car. The design of the car has to be subjected to it and that is why the features of the car are incorporated that way. There might be a longer wheelbase option offered which is going to be sued specifically for the hydrogen powertrain.

Interior Design

The latest 2017 Lexus LS 460 is going to have the same kind of a no nonsense style found in the current car. There is certainly not going to be any shortage in luxury and the materials and gadgets are going to be high end. Expect to get heated and ventilated seats for the driver and also ample legroom. The infotainment is going to be addressed with the added high-grade screen and a newly offered audio system. Added are the ambient lighting which is placed just under the trim or the leather covers to make the atmosphere even better. The driver is also going to be able to use digital navigation options with a backup camera and Bluetooth connectivity. Toyota might decided to bring in some more added gadgets and options but it will be offered as optional mostly.

Powertrain Possibilities

The opportunity of a 2017 Lexus LS 460 finally getting hydrogen powertrain is the main attraction for the model. The rumor has been mentioned for quite some time now and it appears that it might be true this time as Lexus will finally be able to oppose the Miata model which has started the trend.

There is a great possibility that the LS is going to come with the specifically tuned  3.5-liter V-6 engine version which is already used in their GS450 models and it could be perfect for this one to happen. This will enable the car to reach an output of 152 horsepower and 246 pound-feet of torque and that way it will be able to rival the Miata car. There were talks about two engine options being available but that seems like too much of a hassle so it is more than likely that the LS 460 will stick to the hydrogen option only.

Release Date and Price

The price for the 2017 Lexus LS 460 is going to be around  $85,000. But if the hydrogen powertrain does manages to be used, the figure might rise even more than that. We can even expect it to reach six figures as the innovative technology might be a bit too expensive at first. You can expect the car to appear first thing in the latter part of 2017. The car is not expected sooner and we can even see it available for the end period of 2017 the most.

The New 2017 Lexus RX Redesign Release Date and Price

The 2017 Lexus RX 350 continues to dominate the luxury SUV market by giving customers exactly what they’ve always wanted. A combination of comfort, performance and special features coupled with the Lexus brand name ensures that the midrange luxury crossover segment still belongs to the RX series. Though some people may argue that the RX 350 is not as driver oriented as the Mercedes-Benz GLE or the BMW X5, the Lexus still delivers exemplary levels of acceleration and excellent handling. So, it stands to reason that it can beat any other luxury SUV hands down in terms of resale and reliability.

The RX 350 may not be as roomy as the Audi Q5 or the Lincoln MKX. But the fact that it comes loaded with just about every advanced optional safety feature you can think of makes up for that lack of space. The F Sport trim will appeal to drivers who would happily sacrifice a bit of ride comfort for a few extra horsepower of performance and a sportier looking vehicle.

RX 350 Engine

The redesigned Lexus RX 350 is going to use the same reliable 3.5-liter V6 as the 2016 and previous models. However, the engine has been slightly tweaked with a brand-new cylinder head design, improved intake ports, and a few other enhancements. So, the result is a slight bump to 295 from 270 horsepower, with a dash of fuel economy. Also, unlike a few other rival SUVs or crossovers, this one runs perfectly on 87 octane unleaded, so there is a bit of saving to be had there too. But in our opinion, the more efficient RX is the 450h hybrid with a 3.5 liter V6 and a battery powered powertrain coupled with a standard AWD.

  • 3.5-liter V6
  • 267 lb-ft torque @4700 RPMs
  • Power: 295 horsepower at 6300 RPM

Interior Redesign

The 2017 Lexus RX uses a sleek, smooth interior style. In the previous year’s model Lexus moved the gear selector from the center of the dash on over to the console. This year the redesign makes space in the dash for climate control and audio buttons. As a matter of fact, the console is littered with buttons which make finding and pressing what you want a bit of a hassle. However, the mouse type device near the gear selector makes the console easier to operate. So, you don’t really need to reach out to the touchscreen. Interestingly, you can use the mouse like device while keeping your eyes on the road, so it’s not a distraction.

We like the fact that the seats are plush with a lot of legroom even for tall people in the back. The boot space is an impressive 18 cubic feet. Plus, the rear seats are adjustable and can be folded forward extending it to 56 cubic feet.

Exterior Design Notes

Aggressive, bold, and intimidating are words that we’ll use to describe the 2017 Lexus RX redesign. The design builds off the large grille up front which seems to become bigger and bolder with each redesign. However, tapered headlights, unusually high beltline, LED headlights, and its brilliant C-pillar that seems to hold up the back windows show glimpses of vehicles like the Nissan Murano. Lexus calls the new design a “Dramatic Re-imagining” which we can’t argue with but are not sure if it will appeal to your average soccer mom and dad! Only time will tell.

The Lexus ES 350 made its debut in 2007 for the first time bearing that name. In fact the car goes back to the 1990 model year when it was introduced for the first time and released as ES 250. Except for the badging it was pretty much a Toyota Camry model all-together back then. It was only in 2002 when the model divorced and departed its ways of being a Camry knockoff and went through its biggest style change. A style which was then further un updated in 2004 with its first name swap so we got the ES 330. The ES 350 came in 2007 and it is the model that we see today after two generations of remodeling. The fourth one is still not there year but until we wait for this to happen we can enjoy the updated current version.

The newest model has already been showcased at this year’s Shanghai Auto Show where we got to see the full display of the car. The visual updates look great and the 2017 Lexus ES 350 has certainly gained a lot of aesthetic appeal with the exterior design. They are going to try to attack the rivaling models in the mid-size sedan segment, Infiniti Q50 and Acura TLX, and try to better their sales with the update. So until we wait for the next-gen ES 350 this one will do it quite nicely.

Exterior update

Upon viewing the 2017 Lexus ES 350 we can see that the overall shape and size of the car has remained mostly unchanged, but there are a few bits and pieces added to update the car for the upcoming season. The front fascia has been updated with a new spindle grille kind of a design which is now a bolder looking once piece unit. It is framed by a satin chrome trim and there are the new LED headlamps which have a slimmer design.

The low part of the front fascia sees a newly reshaped bumper with chrome surrounds and headlamps. The rear end has been updated with some new L-shaped taillights and the rear is also very nicely complemented with the added rectangular exhaust tips. The rear end of the car also gets a revised trim and a completely new deck lid.

Interior additions and features

In order to keep the interior of the 2017 Lexus ES 350 neat and fresh the car received certain updates to make this happen. The previous look already gave us a very pleasant and wholesome atmosphere on the inside and it really did not take a whole lot to update the cabin. The design was not changed but there were some new features and finishes made which add Linear Dark Mocha wood and Illustrious Piano Black wood and instead of gloss finishes we get a Bamboo matt instead. The added flaxen interior combines the light brown upholsteries with the black dashboard giving us a pretty great atmosphere with this two-tone combination.
