2018 Toyota Tundra Review

In order to get a little bit closer to the rivals, the updated 2018 Toyota Tundra is going to be brought in. The model has been starting to get a little bit behind its competition. It needed an update bad and the car has been doing very poorly in the state that it is now. That said, we are not entirely sure how helpful this update might be. The best that Tundra might benefit from is an entire overhaul which will surely tip the scales in their favor.

What the new model will try to offer you is a combination of some old and established pieces which will come combined with some novelties that this model brings. People who are looking for a robust, full-size pickup truck will appreciate the powertrain offer and the refined feel this model will exemplify. This is something which might keep this car and stir the public away from some rivaling models. The model will also bring back some familiar trims and offer us a wide specter of choices with SR, SR5, TRD Pro, Limited, Platinum, and 1794 Edition trim levels available.

But a lot of people are wondering if this is going to be enough to trump the competition. The release date cannot get any sooner and we are still not sure if the new Tundra will offer enough to tip it over the line this time. Some pieces of equipment do mean adding power adjustable front seats as standard, but only for the Limited version. We also get some new paint jobs available also. But what we were hoping for did not change, and that is the fuel economy of the car. Safety as well could have played a big factor, but unfortunately there were no updates made there as well. So it will be interesting to see what sales numbers the 2018 Toyota Tundra will manage to pull off.

Exterior Design Updates

The style of the new 2018 Toyota Tundra will keep to its hallmarks and familiar features. The future model will probably inherit the type of a design which one would assume would go for a full-size pickup. The massive proportions and the robust character is still there and the Tundra can rival any rivaling car in terms of size and proportions.

The last update made for the Toyota Tundra was done in 2014 and it was there where the car got its new grille, hood and generally a revised front end. The revisions made there were kept and the 2018 version will use the same type of a setup. The general appearance of the new Tundra is cartoonish at best. Although the update to the front end that had been introduced was great it still makes the car seem a bit out of proportion. The tailgate is as rugged as they come but still does not balance the vehicle as they hoped it would. The only good thing that remains here is the simplicity of the sheet metal design that they incorporate. It still needs a bit work but this is what we get for the new 2018 Tundra car.

Inside Changes and Appearance

Although the 2018 Toyota Tundra looks enormous on the outside, its shape has been balanced out on the inside. This is perhaps the greatest advancement that they managed to incorporate here as the car has a shape and combination of controls that do not include large controls. Instead the layout is quite normal and easy to use and you do not need to face any oversized buttons and knobs now. Another great thing is that the materials have improved, but unfortunately they have done so only for the upper trim levels of the car. Many of the GM trucks are actually much better used in their advanced forms than the base one and here the 1794 Edition provides the best that the brand has to offer.

Although the interior is neat and the size of the track is as much as it is legally allowed, the setup does not promises anything new. The offered second row features a standard bench for three people and you can even optionally add captain’s chairs. There is very little interior cabin storage space to use, but you have a large bed behind you if you need to haul bigger things. In fact the lack of imagination for now is the downfall for this version and we are hoping that they address the problems for the future generation versions.

Powertrain and Specs

Perhaps the 2018 Toyota Tundra powertrain list is not as long as some rivaling models have it, but it is still pretty decent to have. The base model is the 4.6-liter V-8 engine which comes rated at 310 horsepower and 327 pound-feet of torque. This is a suitable engine for light drives and a normal rear-wheel drive situation and it certainly has better fuel economy than the V-6 engines that the rivals have with the exact same power.

A more stronger and a more potent option is the  5.7-liter V-8 engine which manages to get 381 hp and 401 lb-ft of torque. But although it has great acceleration and great power, this one is offset by the competition and their offers. Both models will be using 6-speed automatics as their transmission choice.

Fuel economy is not a part that any pickup truck could boast with and it is certainly not the case for the Tundra car. It only manages 14/18/16 mpg for the base version, while the stronger engine makes 13/17/15 mpg EPA stats.

Release Date and Price

The updated version of our 2018 Toyota Tundra will be available at a similar price compared to last time. We do not see it as costing more and although the numbers are not officially in yet we predict that a figure of around 32,000 dollars will be enough for starters. Of course the top version with all the trimmings will amount to 50,000 dollars.

When it comes to availability of the car, the Tundra will probably go on sale next year. This means that the release date is most likely going to be available for the start of 2018 as its potential start.
