2017 Ford Expedition Review

The latest version and next generation dubbed the 2017 Ford Expedition is being issued next year. This is going to be a comeback model for the SUV which was the largest in the Ford lineup. As sales for the last model declined dramatically after a long-term and initial success for the car, it ended up being cancelled with the last model being made in 2007. Nevertheless the sales kept strong even after that but the prices declined due the passage of time. It is high time for a comeback and we have the latest info in this review.

The Ford Expedition is the largest SUV made by Ford and was introduced way back in 1996 as it was released in order to replace the Bronco. We are now witnessing the release of the fourth generation model which is supposed to replace the current one which is still being sold but at a lower price and at a lesser volume.

The Expedition is actually in its last stages of development so we cannot expect an early release and the car’s release date will most certainly come in the first part of next year. Some great news about the car is that there are going to be eight different trim models released for the Expedition, thus we get Limited, XLT EL, Limited EL, XLT, King Ranch, Platinum, King Ranch EL and Platinum EL as our options.

besides the expected interior and exterior updates which are going to define the upcoming 2017 model, we also expect some changes in the drivetrain, particularly something which will make the car more fuel efficient and something which will help it compete in the segment better.

2017 Ford Expedition exterior changes

Something that was unexpected about the exterior for the 2017 Ford Expedition is that it is going to be much lighter. A weight reduction of around 250 pounds thanks to the use of aluminum alloy which is combined with strong steel. This is one of the steps of making the Expedition a more fuel efficient car and it appears that it is working. Also the outside changes are going to reflect the look of both the front and back fascias. The bumpers are going to be redesigned which is going to affect the appearance both front and back, while the front end of the car is also going to get a new grille design and some new headlights which are going to be much more modern for the latest model. All in all we are getting a fresh and updated vehicle with the said changes.

The news about the wheels is that the car is going to utilize the usage of some 22-icnh wheels that may come in handy in the various situations it gets to be used in. The car may look a bit more aggressive than it used to and it is still going to be one of the largest SUVs on the market. With the imposing size and the new much more aggressive changes and updates, we are in for a very good vehicle that comes to the market strong.

Interior updates

The interior update for the 2017 Ford Expedition is going to be suitable for the modern period. The car has been away for so long that it deserves an update which will make it a competitive force on the market. Owing to its large features, the Expedition has always had ample space on the inside and so will the case be this time. The car comes, as always, with three rows if seating and the ability to fit in 8 passengers at once. Not a lot of SUVs have the ability to do so on the market and not a lot of them have the spacing that this one has.  The seats have been covered with soft materials and comfortable upholstery that is going to make the inside as comfortable as it gets.

Of course, other updates concern the technological update that makes the entertainment and the fun part of the car. They are actually keeping it light in order not to add addition weight to the car which may also pose an issue in this case. The latest MyFord Touch infotainment system is going to be a part of this standard setup as is the case with all of the contemporary Ford vehicles while we also get the  Sony audio system with 10 speakers. Navigation controls from a LCD screen is also available with a multitude of other updates which still need to be announced.

2017 Ford Expedition engine

The update mainly concentrated on making the fuel efficiency of the 2017 Ford Expedition largely better, and for better part they have succeeded in it. Much is owed to the usage of the new twin turbo 3.5 L V6 EcoBoost engine which produces  365 hp and 420 lb-ft of torque. Another thing that comes in teh mix in a grand way is the transmission system that gets to be used, thus the  10 R80 SelectShift intelligent manumatic transmission system fits in perfectly all-together here. The Expedition also comes available in the RWD and AWD drives while the fuel rating for the later is 16 mpg and 23 mpg for city and town and  15 mpg and 21 mpg for city and highway for the former. There is also the option of using the 6.7 L Power Stroke V8 engine  that creates  440 hp and 860 lb-ft of torque, but no other data is currently available for the performance and usage of this engine.

Price and release date

The production stage for the vehicle is still in progress, so we can be happy if we get the release date for the 2017 Ford Expedition by the end of the year. We assume it will be set somewhere around the first part of 2017. The price may start at $ 42,000  but may just as easily climb to around $61,000.
