After the Texas State fair we finally have a clear image on how the 2017 Chevrolet Silverado is going to look like. Till now the model was a mystery and the only thing that we got was a potential release date and no review was able to paint a clear picture on how the model was going to look like. This meant only that the car was going to be redesigned as all the secrecy was so tight that we did not have any good leaks to satisfy ourselves with.
The exterior for that matter has not changed in any grandiose way. We have been doubting all the secrecy as there was no call for it if you were going to present a similar style to the one before. Yet they did manage to throw in some bits here and there and have changed a lot, but some people will perhaps not be able to notice the subtle changes that have been made. But the interior is still a competitive one. Although the majority has been kept, there are still more parts on the inside which have changed the car for the better.
There are also some news regarding the pwoertrain as GM has decided to update it for the 2017 year model. In fact only the mid-level and high-level trims are going to receive new additions and updates, while the base remains the same. But some great news is the debut of the new eight-speed automatic transmission system.
But we cannot go and ignore the fact that the Silverado has actually been updated pretty nicely. The changes brought are good enough so we get a completely new truck of the upcoming year. Read all about it here and you will see what the given changes actually are.
The newest 2017 Chevrolet Silverado retains most of its past looks but still manages to throw in a lot of some new ones to make us happy with the look. The front end of the car has a new angular bumper design which seems much more aggressive looking. The grille follows the same kind of a design and removes the straight lines that the previous model had. The headlights also receive some innovations, with the lower spec ones getting the HIDs and the higher trims receiving LED units. But the LED daytime lighting feature is available for all trim levels and comes as a standard option.
There are also certain cages depending on the trim level. The WT has a black plastic grille and black bumper used. The LT model has a lot of chrome to its outside and large chrome-clad wheels. The LTZ has a full offer of LED headlights, turn signals and taillights and also fog lights. The High Country model has some bespoke chrome grille inserts while the LTZ with the Z71 package has the most distinctive look with a monochromatic design that sports body color to the exterior of the car.
The inside of the 2017 Chevrolet Silverado does not include dramatic changes. In fact, it mostly keeps to the same kind of a design that we had before with a software update as the only innovative thing made. But there are some things that can do well for the truck now and there are some long awaited parts placed on the inside. The infotainment system in the mid and high-level trims has a Apple CarPlay available now. If you wish to use the Android Auto, you can do so by upgrading to a 7-inch infotainment touch screen.
There is still going to be a flat load floor behind the first-row seats as you can also raise the rear bench and make more storage available that way. There are more storage places and cup holders placed here now and also a USB port with 12-volt outlets for your chargers and phones. The new Silverado also comes with a 110-volt AC power outlet.
The best thing about the drivetrain update of the 2017 Chevy Silverado is the added transmission system which is new. The car is still going to use the base 4.3-liter V-6, white the mid level comes with a 5.3-liter V-8 and the highest is the 6.2-liter V-8 engine. All three engines come with the EcoTec3 technologies which in turn are updated with direct fuel injection, variable valve timing, Active Fuel Management and more. The engines are also available for the Silverado 1500 and also the 2500HD models as well. The standard transmission from the last time is still there, thus you can opt for the six-speed automatic one, but a new and better one is the eight-speed unit which can handle much more torque and is better for this sort of a truck. The Silverado is also available with 2WD and 4WD.
Release date and price
The starting price for the latest 2017 Chevrolet Silverado is $28,290 as a base MSRP price. This is not too shabby as some people were expecting more and have perhaps thought that the car could rise to a higher number. But it can actually rise as the highest trim is priced at $54,510. The release date is scheduled for the end of this year as it was already stated before the official showcasing of the latest Chevy truck.
