2016 Ferrari 488 GTB Release Date, Price, Engine – Ferrari is scheduled to unleash a refresh of the 458 Italia popularly known as the GTB. The vehicle is set to make a debut in the upcoming Geneva Motor Show. The big news, however, will be the vehicle use of Italia’s naturally aspirated 4.5L V8 engine, which will be traded for the 3.9L V8 twin-turbocharged engine.
More details about the engine specs will be discussed below. On the visual front, the vehicle will feature a more aerodynamic front fascia that will be characterised by a large three part air dam, new headlights and twin air vents that come integrated into the hood.
As for the interior overview, the changes will be minor and will be largely limited to new switches, redesigned seats and an improved infotainment system. More details about the visual enhancements will follow later.
Generally, there has been lots of commotion around Ferrari’s decision to turbocharge the California, and it is the main reason why the company departed from Ferrari’s naturally aspirated leanings.
Exterior – 2016 Ferrari 488 GTB
It is no longer a secret that the new 488 GTB will be coming to replace the 458 Italia vehicle and is conspicuously visible in every angle, despite the company redesigning most of the styling cues of its entry level supercar.
It is quite obvious why the designers would want to keep the headlamps, bumper, overall shape of the fenders, and the hood. The designers would do so maybe to keep the 458 flame alive. However, there are rumours that suggests the 488 designers might work on some of them though the details of that are highly classified.
Making the brand new 488 GTB unique are the bumper’s mid-section that comes incorporated with a pair of vertical struts that compare similarly to joining the front wing of the F 1 to its body.
The side view of the vehicle makes me reminisce about the 458, from which the new vehicle borrows the sculpted shoulders, side skirts, and the beefy front fenders. The 488 comes with unique features nonetheless, these features include the large air intake and the triangular carving on the door’s handle.
Styling aside, the new vehicle sets the benchmark in terms of a well-designed aerodynamic efficiency, thanks to its 1.67 drag coefficient. Another interesting thing is the downward force which has increased by up to 50% in comparison to the previous model.
Interior – Ferrari 488 GTB 2016
Similar to the 458, the new vehicle’s interior has been designed around the driver, and has mixed sportiness and luxury in appropriate proportions. In overall, changes to its interior are far from being dramatic, with the new vehicle already featuring the already known features which include the angled air vents, control clusters, three-spoke steering wheel.
In spite of the already familiar features in the interior, the dashboard feels a little bit refined especially from the two-tone, black over red interior layout. Despite the 488 borrowing heavily from the 458, there are several unique features that the 488 GTB features which include the centre console, which now features a cleaner, simpler, and with minimised buttons to distract the driver from the main task.
Engine – 2016 Ferrari 488 GTB
Engine wise, under the hood of the new 2016 Ferrari 488 GTB will be a new powerplant. A new engine will now replace the award winning, naturally aspirated 4.5L V8. The new powerplant will now be the 3.9L 8-cylinder with forced induction.
The new engine has been rumoured ever since 2014, the new mill is probably related to California’s T’s 3.8L that is capable of cranking out about 660 hp @8,000 rpm and 560 pounds of torque.
With the new engine, the output figures will increase by about 66 hp and 162 pounds of torque over the 458 model. This output figures will definitely be the best performance specs ever seen from a Ferrari’s entry-level supercar.
The most important feat will be the Fiorano lap time which has been recorded as 1:23 minutes. With this benchmark, the new 488 will undoubtedly make the vehicle the second fastest on the companies records.
However, it’s not just the mill that makes that 488 shine on the track. The updated gearbox that comes with a variable torque management and a refreshed gear ratio contributes to the success as well.
Price & Release Date of the New 2016 Ferrari 488 GTB
The pricing and release date details have not been shared by the company, however if I was to be asked the price of the sporty vehicle, I’d say you should expect a price tag that will below the $300,000 mark.
We should expect the new 2016 Ferrari 488 GTB to hit showrooms before the end of the year.
