2016 Alfa Romeo 4C Spider release date, price, specs – A year ago, at the 2014 Geneva Motor Show, we were able to witness for the first time the release fo the new Alfa Rome 4C Spider vehicle. Next year this model gets a release date and it will be presented to us as a 2016 year model. The changes are great and the design even better as the 4C Spider brand lives up to our expectations.
Maybe it will be a bit on a pricy side, but it is to be expected out of this vehicle that Alfa Rome is producing for next year. The car is going to feature some exterior and interior changes. But when we say interior we really mean inside the car, as there are going to be some tampering under the hood and some enhancements that will affect the vehicle’s performance. The design has been changed a bit compared to the current 2014 model and looks marvelous and will be a nic breath of fresh air of the 4C brand.
The initial design has included some support for the carbon fiber framework that has been added. The still support bars underneath actually enhance the weight of the car and make it a little bit on the heavy side. But Alfa Romeo has announced that this does not affect the performance in any significant way as we are in for a pretty good ride with the newest product of Alfa Rome. Just by looking at the pictures you can be sure that this car will be a success and the rest of the review will help you to find out more about the specs of the vehicle.
2016 Alfa Romeo 4C Spider Exterior
The initial changes done for the 4C Spider is the apparent removable top of the car and some bodywork changes that have been included. The car was reshaped but not so much as you can still easily recognize the 4C Coupe inside it. For the 2016 model year all the trademark characteristics of the Spider make their return, the deeply creased hood, the lower positioned V-shaped grille and the front fascia as well. The downward-sloping beltline are still there and they continue to the rear air inlets behind the door, while at the back the preserved spoiler comes with a third brake light and a proud Alfa Romeo badge. Additionally, the taillights are also the same as before.
But now let’s talk about the new things and additions to the Spider. The newly shaped and optionally removable roof is the prime of the redesign. But it does not end there as there are a few new wheel options added and a new rear decklid as well. Also new is the titanium exhaust system with carbon tips and the front headlights that have been finally redesigned. The windshield brace is made of carbon fiber as well and adds structural support and crashworthiness. To match, a carbon fiber B-pillar is added with a small back window.
The powertrain will be the same as in the 4C Coupe version. The 2016 model of the Alfa Romeo’s 4C Spider will use a 1.75-liter, turbocharged, inline-four-cylinder engine. Endowed with direct fuel injection, turbo with a scavenging control system and dual continuous variable valve timing that all help the car achieve a power of 240 horsepower at 6,000 rpm and 258 pound-feet of torque between 2,100 and 4,000 rpm. Also an interesting thing is that the aluminum engine block helps reduce the overall weight of the car by 49 pounds.
The used gearbox is the Alfa’s TCT automatic twin-dry-clutch with paddle shifters, which is also borrowed from the Coupe version. It accounts for fuel efficiency and also delivers a great speed and acceleration to the Spider vehicle. A performance of speeding up from 0 to 60 mph in 4.1 seconds is remarkable, and a top speed of 160 mph makes it as fast as the 4C Coupe and faster than any other vehicles form the 2015 lineup.
Interior of 2016 Alfa Romeo 4C Spider
As for the interior of the 4C Spider, there are not many changes that actually separate it from the Coupe version. What is the most noticeable for the 2016 model is that carbon fiber tub is now more visible due to the lack of materials that are covering it and the new leather upholsteries that have been used for this car. The Spider will still use a flat-bottomed steering wheel and a TFT screen inhabiting the instrument cluster, but its greatest asset is the driver-oriented center stack which makes the driver feel more in control. You will be happy to know that a proper handbrake is still available here and it even makes handbrake turns possible as well.
Lateral support is made available with the inclusion of two composite-framed sport seats that are borrowed from the Coupe version. Some interesting gadgets for the inside include an Alpine sound system and hands-free Bluetooth phone connection and audio streaming, with the already present USB port, an iPod interface, and CD/MP3 capabilities. There is also a choice between no less than five color combinations available, Black leather with Giallo accent stitching, Black leather with Red accent stitching, Tobacco leather with black accent options and Racing seats wrapped in black leather with microfiber inserts and red or yellow accent stitching.
