Very soon after the TLX Prototype model comes the 2016 Acura TLX Sedan production version. It was unveiled at this year’s New York International Auto Show which was actually pretty surprising since that the prototype was shown in Detroit only some time ago. But the new model is a considerable option when we see the cornet luxury market and this sedan looks and feels quote contemporary and high-end for this segment.
The early release of the TLX sedan might be accredited to the slow sales of the TL version. Since the makers in Acura saw that the TL was not cutting it and that the competition was way too much stiff for this car, they have decided to go and put it all on the line with the TLX version. This is going to be a great new blow to the midsize-luxury sedan segment where the new Acura is going to new packages to its setup and also bring a very sporty looking design which is going to combine with the latest advancements in handling and the new powertrain options it offers.
Acura is going to bring two new engine options for this model as the two-wheel drive vehicle from Acura in 2016 are going to get an upgrade under the hood. Combine the engines with the Super-Handling All Wheel Drive system and you get a 25% lighter setup compared to the preceding one but also one which is upgraded with the new torque-vectoring control logic making the handling superb.
2016 Acura TLX Sedan exterior design
The 2016 Acura TLX Sedan is going to inherit a lot from its prototype version, design wise. The exterior look is much owed to the one that we have seen just some time ago. In fact it really helps when the concept is near-production ready, and this one mostly was as we have seen a car which was already able to take on the market.
If we compare the TLX with the TL, the car which it is scheduled to replace, the new model is 3.8 inches shorter. The wheelbase dimensions actually remained the same but the places where there was a cut made was little bit to the front and a little bit in the back. Acura was planning for a sportier look but they also did not want to give up the interior spacing, well what they did in the end was actually the perfect way to make both things possible.
The front end of the car is dominated by a Acura signature grille and its flanked by Jewel Eye LED headlamps. The lower intakes have chrome highlights and added winglet-like horizontal elements adding which further justify the sporty design. The thing which was also transferred from the concept are the muscular body lines that the car now has. You can now notice them both on the hood and the sides of the car.
Given the fact that the latest 2016 Acura TLX has the same wheelbase as the TL model, they also share the same interior spacing, particularly when it comes to the legroom. But ten greatest difference is that the TLX has a much more refined interior as it has all sorts of plush features and trims added. The car has one-piece instrument panel cover, soft-touch finishes and wood-grain and alloy inserts. You can optionally get the Milano leather option for your seats and other interior details.
The cabin has also been made to be a lot more quieter than before. It has electronic Active Noise Control, triple door seals and acoustic glass windshield that greatly reduce the noise inside the cabin. Technology wise the TLX also has an enormous display of fine and very convenient gadgets. Some of them are the heated and ventilated front seats while you can also get the keyless entry and start. Other features add LED accent lighting and USB connectivity, there is a seven-inch multi-use display touch screen on the center console and an updated navigation system with 3D view.
The pwoertrain for the 2016 Acura TLX is being updated. The larger 3.7-liter which was used in the TL version is being substituted with a 2.4-liter inline-four. The four cylinder engine is then able to make 209 horsepower and 182 pound-feet of torque and is going to be used with a eight-speed dual-clutch transmission. The bigger 3.5-liter V6 will be paired with a nine-speed automatic and will be able to make 290 horsepower and 267 pound-feet of torque. You can get both units with an Acura’s upgraded Precision All-Wheel Steer while the V6 can be connected with a Super-Handling All-Wheel system as well. The smaller unit will have an estimated EPA rating of 24 mpg city and 35 mpg combined, while the bigger engine gets an estimated 21 mpg city and 34 mpg highway.
Price and release date
Depending on the package, engine and other additions that you use the price for the 2016 Acura TLX sedan will change. The starting one is $31,695 and will be different for other trim levels and package additions. The release date is coming just in a few months and you can get your car already after April.
