The redesigned Hyundai Sonata Hybrid 2016 and its entire all-new hybrid stablemate are 5-passenger mid-size family sedans. And according to unspecified reports, the new Sonata has already received an A rating and will definitely lead the competition in terms of front-seat head and leg room, and space.
The new Hyundai Sonata Hybrid 2016 will come in two trim variants: SE and Limited trim levels. The latter will be made available with an Ultimate package upgrade that adds a pack of convenience and safety features.
The 2016 Sonata Plug-In Hybrid, or PHEV, will come as either Base or Limited trim variants. Exterior styling cues on the hybrid models will include exclusive front and aft fascia tweaks that will not only be aimed at making the models unique but also on enhancing their aerodynamics.
The 2016 Sonata hybrids will undoubtedly bring some little swagger to the already sleek and quasi luxurious styling already introduced in the previous model. That said, the new models will certainly offer segment leading aerodynamic profile that is matched by the all-electric Tesla model S.
Engine Specs – 2016 Hyundai Sonata Hybrid
Under the hood of the new vehicle will be a single powerplant to be offered. It will be a 2L 4-cylinder engine that is rated at 154 hp and 140 pounds of torque. The standard hybrid will increase that figure by 51 hp electric motor, while the PHEV will get an electric motor with an output of around 67 hp.
Combination of the powerplants will result to an output of 193 hp, which will be a slight decrease from the previous model’s 199 hp peak output. The model will use a regular gasoline engine that can provide a range of more than 600 miles.
Power will be transmitted to the front wheels through Hyundai’s silky smooth and quiet 6-speed auto manual system, an amazing alternative to the CVT (Continuous Variable Transmission) most other hybrids use.
The standard hybrid model makes use of the 1.6kW lithium-ion battery pack that will either be charged by the engine or through regenerative braking. The only downside is that it will be able to offer only a couple of miles of all-electric driving.
Interior Colors – Hyundai Sonata Hybrid 2016
Befitting of redesigned cars, the Sonata Hybrid will come with a brand new cabin that will make the interior a pleasant place to spend your drive time in. in an overall perspective, the interior space is quite generous, with class leading legroom and headroom in front. Needless to say, adults will also have a comfortable driving experience in the backseats.
The new 2016 Hyundai Sonata Hybrid will come with new features which will include heated steering wheel, heated and perforated eight-way power driver and 6-way powered front seats. Both the plug-in and regular hybrids will come with both dual-zone climate control systems and both Hybrid Limited trim and plug-in models will make air vents available for the rear passengers. The automobile giant has done a great job in ensuring the cabin is quiet, even wind noise will be barely audible even at top speeds.
The instrument panel and horizontal dash layout provide an easy access to controls and visuals for the instrumentation. Also, Hyundai took pains to enhance the cargo volume in both the plug-in and hybrid Sonata models
2016 Hyundai Sonata Hybrid Exterior Design
The can will now enjoy chrome-laced grille, LED turn signals, and HID headlights with LED daytime running lights. The headlights will be pushed a little apart from each other on the car’s nose and flow nearly halfway to the A pillar. The sloping hood is carefully sculpted and has nicely raised accents that tie in the design.
There is also the sharp character line that runs just above the door handles and intersects at the top of the LED taillights. The mentioned line corresponds well to the other accent line that comes off the headlamps and runs beneath the window trim.
Around back, the vehicle will come with a different diffuser, however it enjoys similar looks with the conventional Sonata. The taillights will be covered with clear lenses in order to help brighten the tail.
That said, the Ultimate Package fitted in my tester model came with a large panoramic sunroof that extends in the entire interior. Looking from outside, the tint is so dark and appears as if the Sonata’s roof is painted an accent black.
Price & Release Date – 2016 Hyundai Sonata Hybrid
The standard 2016 Hyundai Sonata Hybrid model will come with an MSRP tag of around $27,000, while the Limited trim level will demand an upwards of $30,100. Hyundai hasn’t released the precise release date yet, but we expect the details in the coming weeks.
Canada should also brace itself for on more plug-in electric car in the form of the all-new Hyundai Sonata 2016 Plug-In Hybrid this coming summer.
